“It was year 2010 when Isla ng Bata’s Family Home opened its doors, welcoming the first girls and turning a long-dreamed project into reality: to provide a family to the many lonely and abandoned children of Calabnugan, a small village in the region of Negros Oriental, Philippines.
Today, we look back with awareness of our great achievements and consciousness of the many girls that have been welcomed and assisted during these years. These girls, today, have become young women full of dreams and ambitions and, above all, free to choose for themselves. But dreams are never too big.
With these words in mind, in 2019 we kicked off the second edition of Francesco’s Solidarity Ride, who, after crossing Italy on two wheels in 2019 (the first edition of the solidarity ride from S. Maria di Leuca to Predoi), replicated with a scaled-down initiative, due to the Covid emergency.
The 2020 Solidarity Ride had as its main objective the celebration of the first 10 years of activity, but with a particular goal in mind: to sign one distance adoption for each stop.
Distance sponsorship is a very important support for the girls we welcome; it allows Isla ng Bata to cover part of the costs relating to school, health and food for each individual child of the Family Home.
This opportunity allowed us to reach different villages and organize small dinners or informal meetings, in order to introduce to as many people as possible the stories of many girls, who have managed to change their future, build new memories, overcome terrible traumas and smile again.
